With no rest for the wicked we now need to strip the car and make some improvements in readiness for season 2012. This will include some engine development, suspension change and a new coat of paint. Great season of racing but we really require some more car speed to compete with Ben in his beautiful new Sabre 02, but we believe we are up to the challenge.

Thanks to all who have followed our progress this season. Also appreciated are the officials and volunteers who without them we could not enjoy our chosen sport. You guy’s and girl’s make it all happen cheers.

Have a merry Christmas and a very happy and safe New Year. Please join us in 2012 as we try and back up this year’s efforts.

Mallala Round 3 S.A. State Championships Aug 21 – 22.

Another round of the championship has been run and won. After some development work and a dyno run we were ready to test our setup and see if we have had a gain? During testing 2 weeks ago we were evaluating some new components and were pleased with the results that was showing when during the 3rd session out on track, our gauge showed a lack of oil pressure briefly. As soon as Daniel clutched the engine he was to observe a return to full pressure whilst he very slowly returned to the pits. Very disconcerting 2 weeks out from the round. Workshop time revealed no obvious issue and all fluid were changed as a precaution.

We went to the round with new tyres and we failed to get any real advantage as we had difficulty getting through the wax on the rubber and it was not until race 2 when the tyres started to feel good. ”My qualifying was an ordinary performance and the track did little to offer the new rubber any real grip” said Daniel. He went on to say he was still relieved to be in 3rd position at completion. Ben Forgan was again the man to beat and he was substantially quicker.

Race 1 was to see our Calibre One jacer finish in 2nd place some 5 sec behind Forgan as we had to race for the position with Surman. We had at least closed up the time difference somewhat to Forgan but the tyres were not graining up well yet. “Aspects of the Jacer were really good, and we appeared to have improved certain areas where we had concerns after round 2” explained the crew chief Kevin.

Race 2 saw a poor start off the line as the car coughed sending us rearward about 3 spots and we had to battle extremely hard to get up into 2nd place before race end. Still we were pleased the tyres seemed to be finding some grip as the track slowly came to us as we dipped into the 21’s with Forgan and were the only two cars to do so.

Race 3 on Sunday was a mixed race for us as our start once again was not brilliant and forced us to battle with Surman, Mutch, and Rebbeck for a few laps until getting clear of them as it was getting a bit messy. We went on to claim 2nd spot again and were some 11 seconds clear of 3rd place at race end. Forgan again dominated and won comfortably.

The final race saw a brilliant start from Daniel as he reached turn one in the lead. It was Forgan who for a change had to contend with traffic. By mid race he had caught up to our Jacer and then we swapped positions a few times over the next lap or so. The track was very slippery in several places due to oil from Pavan’s car dropping everywhere for a lap or so. “It was slippery and I knew I had to stick with Ben and keep the pressure on” said Daniel. Forgan passed on lap 5 and had the lead for 6 then 7 & 8 saw it change twice as they tried to make a break. On lap 8 whilst right behind the Sabre, Ben succumbed to the oil and spun himself around and Daniel managed to avoid him and move on to take over the lead until the flag. This time we were able to compete with Forgan and place him in unfamiliar territory of having to work for the position and not drive away with the race.

Congratulations to Ben for the round win by 1 point. “We have come away from this round with our Championship lead intact” said Daniel. The team has worked really hard at this, and the result was a better showing. We still have a way to go yet and we feel we are making real progress and also getting a little closer to the Sabre 02 of Forgans. Certainly he will have to earn it in round 4 as we have battled hard in the pack all year. The Sabre 02 and the Calibre One jacer were clearly the two standouts in the field for round 3.

We now look forward to round 4 in November.
